Wild clay vessels filled with scents and salt were arranged on a table in a curving line to resemble the form of the nearby Wallkill River. Viewers were encouraged to lift and carry a vessel, breathe in and out, embark on a scent journey, while embracing the salt that also regulates their bodies. With aromatics of Marigold, signifying all beings that have lived, and White Pine, the species of tree that is milled into the bones of homes, Expanse of Level allowed the audience to use multiple senses to harmonize what is inside with the outside - of their bodies, their time scales, and the gallery itself.
